Publicly proclaiming the art and attributes of God"

At West Hills we are set free in our worship, free from conventions, and free to honor traditions. We are a creative people who serve a creative God. We use the musical, dramatic, and visual arts as a vehicle for expressing ourselves to God and expressing His message to others.

Our worship is the joyful celebration of God’s people. We seek to bridge present
culture with ancient elements in glorifying God.

The arts play a strong role in our expression of worship. A broad pool of musicians makes many musical styles possible. Drama is often used to illustrate a theme. Artists adorn our worship space with their offerings. Communion is celebrated twice per month. Servers stand in the front of the church; each individual chooses his or her moment to come forward and partake of the elements. Some worshippers choose to kneel at the altar for prayer, while others may receive a blessing and prayer from the pastor following communion.

Here's what people have to say about West Hills Covenant WORSHIP:

“I searched for a church family for years—what a blessing to have been invited to WHCC a year ago! I love the Sunday morning...service and am so happy to be a part of the WHCC family!”

“The worship service feeds your mind as well as your spirit."

Artists of all kinds come here because they know this church will give them freedom and encourage them to express their art.

For example, look at what resident artists at West Hills did to Vacation Bible School: They turned it into ART Camp.

Kidsdabbled in fundamental art skills and learned about creating in thecontext of the Creator God. The kids had so much fun, the adults wantedtheir own opportunity to learn about God through art, and a 1-day artcamp for adults was born, "ART AND SOUL."

The bannershanging on the walls or from the ceiling, the extravagant flourish offlowers on the platform, the scenes carved into the wooden communiontable. . .all are worship from the hands of artists at West Hills.

Here's what people have to say about West Hills Covenant ARTS:

"I found the freedom to create - art or music, dance or drama - unto His glory."

Drama

Proverbial Players

ProverbialPlayers started in the late 1970s when church drama was virtuallyunheard of. The pastor encouraged a drama teacher... set her free touse her drama talents in worship.

Currently, the Proverbial Players perform occasional sketches duringthe church service. Over the years, they've also staged severalfull-length productions, and sent a drama team to Mexicali.

Most of what you see Proverbial Players do you'll never see anywhereelse, because they write it themselves... sketches, plays, evenfull-length musicals. They are known throughout the Portland area as aresource for churches who are just catching on to the idea.
