Adult Christian
Formation
for 2009

Men's Bible Study   We will be reading throught the New Testament through May,
using a Navigator's "New Testament Reading Plan" as a guide.
All men are welcome; come join a group of men who simply desire to grow
closer to God by providing a safe place to come discuss God's workd and to
bring praises and burdens to be shared and prayed for, as we enjoy fellowship
with one another.  Greg Englund and Chris Pickens, (The Shack)

Mind and Heart   This unit is an opportunity for Christians to come together and share how they rely on their faith in God to work through the trials and tribulations of everyday life.  The format is open, allowing members to bring to the class the topics that are most important in their lives at any given time.  Scripture, prayer, life experience, and the encouragement of others are the tools used to explore how the Holy Spirit works in our lives.
Class is held in Rm. 6.    Dave Lennert and Dan Moore.  prayer rm

Old Testament Bible Study - I and II Kings  This OT class will be helpful and exciting
for all who want to dig deeper into the Scriptures.  You will gain fuller and deeper insight by
answering a sheet of prepared questions that will guide you through each week's passage.  This preparation will help both the novice and the more mature believer to participate knowledgably and with confidence in the in-class discussions.  Also it is helpful to see a particular passage in the context of previous OT, and further NT, revelation. So come to this class, and come learn what motivated the characters we will meet in this book to act righteously or faithlessly as the case may be.  This in turn may be very helpful in sorting out the real motivations behind your own daily actions.  And, this insight will draw you ever nearer to the LORD to seek his council and advice daily.  Newcomers may join this class any time. Hans Blom, Library

Romans:  A Practical Application - Winter Term Eddie Rashake, the author of the Book of Romans section in the series Following God Through the Bible calls Romans "the best single source of fundamental Christian doctrine in the Bible."  Why does he make this assertation? Find out in the upcoming class.Using his material, some directed readings and dialogue we will explore the book of Romans - searching for how this applies to us today.  This exploration will incorporate ideas that apply to you as an individual, to us as a body, and to our relationship with the world.  Feel up to a challenge combined with fun? Then this class is for you!  (Togas optional)  Bob Wells and Bill McCorkle- The Shack

Midweek Studies

Tuesday Night  OT  On Tuesday night September 15 we will pick up our in-depth study of book of Numbers where we left off last Spring.  Once we finish that book we will move to the book of Deuteronomy.  For most people the idea of studying Numbers and Deuteronomy is enough to make them roll their eyes and mutter, "Why?" However, we cannot dismiss these books so easily.   In I Corinthians 10:11 it states that, "These events (from the Book of Numbers) were written down for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come."   And, as for Deuteronomy Jesus quoted more from Deuteronomy than from any other OT book.  So, if He thought the book to be important we should too.  For one thing Deuteronomy reveals to us what Israel's great Lawgiver Moses felt was important for God's people to hear and do.  This certainly is still every bit as true for us today. We meet from 7:15-9:15pm in the Library and newcomers are especially welcome.   Hans Blom

Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman, Beth Moore's newest Bible study, is the focus for the Wednesday morning Bible study.  Going up against heavyweights bent on her destruction, Esther trusted God and landed a blow that saved her people. The Old Testament story of Esther is a profile in courage and contains many modern parallels for today's woman. Esther's destiny can be yours as you know more deeply the God who is in your corner.   We will begin with a breakfast and introduction video on Wed Sept 9th, at 9:15 to 11:30 in the fellowship hall.  We would love to have YOU join us.  Questions and/or to reserve a workbook ($15)contact Claudia Kardos, or Celia Stockamp.

Wednesday Evening Women's
Bible Study

We will resume meeting on September 16th to look deeper into the Fruit of the Spirit and how to encourage its growth in our lives.  We meet at 7:00 PM at the Raleigh Hills New Seasons community room.  (Working women can come a few minutes early and pick up dinner.)  We pray, share, and encourage each other, and try to finish by 8:30 PM.  See Lois Blom or Marcia McCorkle with questions.
